We were delighted to recieve the following feedback from Lizzie Smith, who attended the LRETEE in 2007 which went to London, Brussels and Utretch.

What has the Lloyd's Register Educational Trust Engineering Experience done for me?

This is probably one of the hardest questions anyone has ever asked me because it has done so much for me and I simple don’t know where to start.

Probably the most important thing it has done for me is that it gave me a talking point on my UCAS form and gave me a competitive edge on all the other candidates and with so many students appealing for so few places I believe helped me get my place at university. This was seen by the fact that every university interview I went to, the first thing they asked me about was LRETEE before even asking about my grades or reasons for applying for the course; I think that speaks volumes about how much universities value experiences such as LRETEE.

Secondly, I think it confirmed to me that engineering and design is the industry I want to enter into because although you like the subject in and out of school the industry can be a completely different kettle of fish.

I think also the experience of travelling to 2 different countries gave me an insight not only to how they see engineering but to the countries culture and way of life which I believe is an important life skill as well as a good tool in design.

Finally and probably something that has made me a different person is the independence it gave me. Before the LRETEE I had never travelled anywhere alone and I think that gave me the confidence to be more independent and confident in my everyday life.
