No Entry Fees!

As with all our competitions, Young Engineers for Britain is free to enter and we assist with accommodation and travel costs for the national finalists.

Dove-tails with GCSE and A level course work (or equivalents)

The competition judging criteria is similar to GCSE and A level marking schemes, enabling students to enter their school work without having to do a huge amount of extra work.

Extensive Competition Support

The Young Engineers for Britain competition is noted for the high standards and quality of the projects entered into the competition and we are keen that every project reaches its full potential, and so give each student the greatest chance of success in the competition.  The support offered to those entering the competition through our competition support pages helps students to develop their projects to their maximum potential.  Our competition support pages include: advice on project management, portfolio and presentation tips, examples of successful projects and patent advice.

As well as huge prizes for both students and schools, the enormous prestige of the Young Engineers for Britain competition, and the resulting exposure to the media and industry gained for student’s work creates fantastic opportunities for the competition’s participants.  Project displays at regional and national finals have led to the commercial manufacture of their projects.  (To find out more about these, see our Fulcrum Newsletters and Success Stories webpage.  Students have also found the competition good material for UCAS personal statements and have found discussing their projects has put them in a positive light in university interviewsOfsted also look favourably on schools entering Young Engineers for Britain competitions as part of their curriculum enrichment opportunities offered to students. 
 
Competing at International Level
Each year we take two Young Engineer for Britain projects to the USA to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), where international recognition and even bigger prizes are on offer!  Young Engineer for Britain projects have a great track record in this competition, and their quality has led to them gaining several top awards over the years.  See Fulcrum 13 for news on our latest success’ in this competition.
The Intel Design and Discovery programme for 11 to 15 year olds, developed to encourage US entries to this competition, also offers teachers wishing to encourage the development of Young Engineers for Britain entries a useful framework for sparking project ideas and teaching student’s the skills needed to turn their ideas into successful projects.  It covers: Understanding the Design Process, Engineering Fundamentals, Thinking Creatively, Making, Modelling, and Materializing, Prototyping and Final Presentations.
