Hands on Problem Solving
Students can get their hands dirty! By getting studente to build models and prototypes, they learn whether their theoretical designs will actually work!
Assist with travel costs to national finals
Where possible Young Engineers assists with all travel costs and any necessary overnight stays, which means you and your students can save your funds for project builds!Meeting new people that share the same interest
Young Engineers competition finals have a great atmosphere as you get together with lots of like minded people. Students get to share ideas and inspire each other onto even greater acheivements.
Judged by engineers
We work closely with engineers to devise our competitions and set up the judging criteria. Having them involved at every step of the process means that students' projects are judged fairly and the feedback they receive is of additional value.
Prizes and Awards
Our trophies are designed and manufactured by retired stunt man and prolific innovator Dr. Rex Garrod. They are fabricated out of keepsakes from notable engineering projects such as Formula 1 cars, racing yachts, military aircraft and Concorde!

As well as designing and making fabulous trophies for Young Engineers, you may have seen some of his other contraptions – like K-9 from Dr. Who, the Cassius robots from Robot Wars and Brum!
All of our competitions award prize money to the winning entries, both the school and the students benefit and of course all students attending national finals receive goodies and much valued certificates of achievement. Prize money is dependent upon each individual competitions reward system, so read each competition to see what you could win.
A chance to get in the news!
Our events attract good media interest, so entrants also stand a good chance of appearing in newspapers, radio or TV!
Something for the CV
As well the huge amount finalists learn from the design and build process, they develop important life skills. Competition finals also make great CV content!
