Young Engineers Competitions
We run a wide variety of national competitions covering ages 7 to 19. Competitions are an excellent way of engaging students and adding extra excitement to engineering activities. All our competitions are free to enter and we will always try to assist with accommodation and travel costs for competition finalists. We offer advice and support to competition entrants to give them the best possible chance of success. All of our competitions are open to all UK based students whether in school, college, youth groups or clubs.
Young Engineer for Britain (Age 11-19)
Young Engineers challenges students to use their imagination to create, design and develop an original idea for a commercially viable device or system that meets a useful need they have identified. Open to individuals and teams of students up to a maximum of four. The competition is open to school years, 7-13 or P7 to S6 or equivalent. This competition is not open to primary schools or primary school aged students. Closing date 2 weeks before your regional final. With fantastic prizes and opportunities such as an all expenses week long trip to the USA to take part in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Link

Gatwick Airport - Racing Baggage Buggies (7 - 19)
This brilliant and fun competition requires students as individuals or in teams of up to four to design, build and race an exciting new design of the baggage trucks used at airports to take luggage fromthe terminal out to the plane. The Racing Baggage Buggies tow upto three trailers loaded with baggage and drag race up a track to set the fastest time. Lost luggage gives time penalties! In its second year we hope this challenge will roll and roll and roll!

Royal Navy - Challenge Days
Young Engineers is working with the Royal Navy to develop a series of one day challenge days for 15 - 16 year old year old students based in UK schools and colleges. Students enter as individuals and will work with three other students as a team to complete a series of engineering challenges to win points and therefore prizes. The best teams at the regional events will be invited to take part in a national final where they will be challenged to complete a new series of challenges and win big prizes and rewards.Junior Engineer for Britain - K'NEX Challenge (Ages 8-11)
The aim of this challenge is to provide primary school children with an introduction to the exciting world of engineering by challenging them to produce a specific design solution for a set problem and then build the solution using K’Nex! Open to pupils aged 8 - 11 years old. Challenge opens November 2009. Lloyd's Register Educational Trust - Engineering Experience
This is an incredible opportunity for students to see some of the most exciting engineering achievements and some of the most important current industrial projects. An all expenses paid trip to secret destinations - could it be somewhere in Europe? The USA? Britain? China? All are possible! This once in a life time engineering experience is offered to 6--8 students aged 16-18. Students with a real interest in engineering and who are considering it as a career would benefit the most form this phenomenal opportunity. Intel ISEF
Up to three Young Engineer for Britain projects selected at the national final will be asked to represent the UK at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, held every year in May at some exciting location in the USA. The lucky students recieve all accommodation and travel free and are able to compete for thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of prizes. This is an incredible opportunity for students over the age of 16 but you have to enter YEB to be considered!The Big Bang (11-19)
The national final of Young Engineer for Britain is to be held at at the UK's biggest science and engineering fair for students and industry, the next event will be held in March 2010 and will also in iclude the national finals of CREST Awards and the new National Science and Engineering Competition.The fair is open to visiting schools to take part in various activities and see exciting new technology from industry.
