'New Camelot' Model Makers Gain K'Nex National Champions Crown
Katie Thornton (10 ) and David Frank ( 10), from Hutton Rudby Primary School, Yarm, North Yorkshire, have been crowned 2010 Junior Engineer for Britain K’NEX Challenge champions after winning the national final, organised by Young Engineers at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford on Friday 11 June. Working as a team, the pair had to design and build a new Camelot in the two hours time limit using K’NEX components. Find out more

A Visit to the Palace
A delegation, led by Chairman Ken Sanders from Young Engineers called on HRH The Duke of York, KG, KCVO, ADC at Buckingham Palace on Friday to provide a progress update. Prince Andrew is patron of Young Engineers and also personal sponsor of The Duke of York’s Rose Bowl – the award given to the best Young Engineer for Britain electronics project. Find out more

Young Engineers win award at the FLL World Festival 2010 in Atlanta
A team of Young Engineers from Trimley St Martin Primary School in Suffolk have returned very happy from a thrilling international research and robotics competition in Atlanta.
 
In January, TSM Roboteam qualified for a place at the FLL World Festival by becoming National Champions at Loughborough University. Find out more

St Albans RC High School wins IET film competition
Pupils at St Albans RC High School in Pontypool, South Wales, have been announced as winners of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday film competition.

The competition called for students to produce a short film about the challenges brought about by global warming, increasing populations, diminishing natural resources and pollution. Find out more

UK Young Engineer Wins Major Awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
Eighteen year-old James Popper, who is a student at Marlborough College, Wiltshire has scooped a host of major prizes in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which took place in San Jose, California from 9-14 May. His remarkable achievements in a field of the best 1600 science and engineering students from around the world included:

• Intel ISEF Best of Category award for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering worth $3,000 plus a $5,000 scholarship with a $1,000 grant to his school

• An invitation to the prestigious ‘Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar’, an event where 25 of the world’s best young Scientists and Engineers meet during the Nobel Prize Ceremonies

• The US Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Foundation Presidents' Scholarship worth $10,000 over four years to a college of choice

• First place in the US Government Patent and Trademark Office Society award worth $2000 and Runner-up in The International Society for Optical Engineering award worth $1500

• Winner of a United Technologies Corporation Prize of $2,000 worth of shares in the company

James was accompanied at the Fair by Simon Brookes from Balcarras School, Cheltenham, who was placed fourth in the Energy and Transportation category winning $500. Find out more

Closing date approaching for this year's Lloyds Register Educational Trust Engineering Experience - apply now! (Age 16-18)
Any student aged 16-18 who has an interest in pursuing an engineering based career is invited to consider submitting an application to take part in this year’s experience. This all expenses paid trip normally involves about six industrial visits spread over four days and is an intensive but exceptionally rewarding experience where students have the opportunity to see a wide range of engineering companies and to meet some of their staff. Find out more

International Success beckons for Primary Club Trimly St Martin
The Young Engineers Club was formed about nine years ago to help develop a general interest in mechanical, structural, electrical and electronic engineering, and aims to extend expertise and knowledge beyond the scope and level gained through normal schoolwork. Since about eight years ago, a team has been formed from the club each autumn term to take part in an annual international research and robotics competition known as the FIRST Lego League Challenge. Find out more
